Access and Benefit-Sharing
Is an acronym representing the core concept of the Nagoya Protocol.
This refers to an international obligation where, in accordance with the Nagoya Protocol, biological resources from other country must be acquired (accessed) with prior permission of the country that provides such resources, and the outcomes (benefits) obtained through their utilization (R&D) should be distributed in a fair and equitable manner with the providing country.

Access Acquisition=Access
- The collection and distribution of foreign biological or genetic resources or indigenous traditional knowledge associated with those resources for R&D purposes
- Prior Informed Consent (PIC) from the competent national authority of a foreign country required
* Competent National Authority : The authority responsible for determining Prior Informed Consent (PIC) for the acquisition of domestic biological resources

Benefit-Sharing Distribution of Outcomes=Benefit-Sharing
- Negotiating how to distribute R&D outcomes (monetary or non-monetary) for the provider of biological resources
- Establishing a Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT) agreement based on the negotiated results
